Weekend Reflections: Serendipity

Serendipity is the name of the barge on this wonderfully quiet and pretty stretch of the Macclesfield Canal, near bridge number 60. The 42 mile long canal was completed in 1831 at a cost of £320,000.

I wasn't 100% sure what "serendipity" means, so it was a pleasant surprise and happy accident when I looked it up and discovered it means a "happy accident" or "pleasant surprise"; specifically, the accident of finding something good or useful without looking for it...as applies to this photo in fact.

Thanks to Susie for suggesting the angle, as I was going to photograph it from a different direction, which would have resulted in a very dull photo! Part of the Weekend Reflections postings.

  1. You can thank Susie but it was you who caught this perfect reflection.

    1. Yes, there are some people who live full time in these barges but most are used for weekend homes or holidays. They can be quite cosy, with a generator, an oven, wood burning fire, coal. Today I saw someone sitting inside one looking warm and using a laptop. A mix of 19th and 21st century.

  8. This would have to be one of the best angles Chrissy, beautiful water reflections and rolling hills as a backdrop! Perfect.
