Monday Mural: Ask Akse about James Gandolfini

Adorning one of the walls of Blank Space* in Hulme is this mural of James Gandolfini which I assume was created after his death in June. I don't really watch much tv so didn't know any of the roles he played, but to pass away at the young age of 51 is a tragedy. It's the work of street artist Akse, a French-Vietnamese artist based in Manchester since 1997. See here too.Taking part in Monday Murals.

  1. Nice picture of the head of the sopranos. I hope that the black hole not is mended as a bullet hole or perhaps it is just used for it. Its a kind of photographic tribute to him just passed away. I like it.

  6. Like everyone else, my eye went right to the hole and thought "bullet".

  9. Nice find! I still haven't seen The Sopranos (even though I live in New Jersey!) - everything I heard about him indicated he was a kind man. No matter what, he died too young indeed.

  10. that 'bullet hole' seems appropriately and yet inappropriately placed at the same time. if you know what I mean.
he was a rather larger than life character as Tony Soprano.

  11. A very effective portrait. Captures the sadness in his eyes that so many actors mentioned after his death. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
