Hats off to the Hat Works

Today we feature the hat museum in Wellington Mill in Stockport, which used to be a hat factory. It's the "UK's only museum dedicated solely to the hatting industry, hats and headwear"  and an award winning visitor attraction. The mill is a restored Grade II listed 19th century mill.

Linked to the Thursday Challenge blog -this week's challenge is "big".

  1. I cannot recall the last time I wore a hat, not that I ever really did apart from my time in the military. Interesting idea for a museum and its nice to see an old mill thats in use and not as housing.

*** About your comment, Luxembourg is strategically located bordered by Belgium, France, and Germany. So that it helps to go out for a day trip or long weekends. It's nice and it's a kind of hobbie!;)

  5. That must be an intresting museum ! The British women are famous for their original and sometimes very funny hats, lol ! I remember the hats Andrews daughters wore for William and Kate's wedding !

  6. Judging by the size of the factory they must have made huge numbers of hats, but then it is easy to forget that 'everyone' used to wear a hat. Nice gritty feel to the image.

    1. Grittiness partly caused by accident, it being a long range shot through the window of a moving train on a dull day! Cropping and slightly enhancing the colours turned it from the "delete" pile into something half usable!

  7. I'm betting that is an interesting place to visit. It's so nice that this bit of history is being kept alive and not bulldozed to make room for a modern building.

  8. Thought I recognised it from the thumbnail on the portal. I was in there recently and it is indeed a fascinating place - you need to get permission to photograph inside though. Entry is free unlike some museums so definitely worth a visit - the main entrance is on Wellington Road North but you can exit on Wood Street which is handily next to the bus station. In one section you can try on some of the hats. There is an internet cafe inside too but I didn't look in that part. I really must go again sometime.

  9. Many times I think, that time was better, when people did wear hats.

    Please have a good Friday.

  12. this would be so great to visit Chrissy, I must admit to wearing a fedora in summer, but Aimee is the queen of the hats, she has some fabulous styles and wears them really often, she has what you might call a 'hat face' haha!
