Canada House on Canada Day

Happy Canada Day across the pond for tomorrow, 1 July. Canada House was constructed at the end of the Victorian era and was considered to be one of the best cotton warehouses in Manchester.

How shameful and embarassing then that the Canadian government cuts caused the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to pull the plug on their voice to the world for 65+ years, Radio Canada International, only last Sunday. This despite many protests from listeners all over the world. It was one of my favourite stations. The RCI Action Committee tried its best to save the service. I hope somehow it may return one day in its former glory with Maple Leaf Mailbag and The Link. http://rciaction.org/blog/

  1. It is terrible news about Radio Canada Int. We've got a terrible government at the moment, and I'd like to think the damage to our international reputation doesn't extend beyond this...but it does. Nevertheless, I'll celebrate Canada Day tomorrow with a bit of hope.

  3. Happy Canada Day!

What a beautiful building. It is a shame that traditions are lost in bad economic times. Tough decisions to make and tough to take.

  7. That is absolutely regrettable that they pull the plug on Radio Canada. What A shame.

This is a beautiful building. Hope the interior is just as well-maintained.

  8. Lovely building and beautifully composed. Seems most governments around the world are making unpopular cuts....

  9. Thanks for the good wishes! We do have a horrible government right now - I just hope we survive their cuts without many more terrible losses.

  10. Yes, unfortunately our current government doesn't see any merit in the CBC. Little to do with finance, more to do with their dislike of all the "lefties" that work there.

I'll celebrate Canada Day, rain or shine, regardless of the buffoons in Ottawa!
