ABC Wednesday: "J" is for Jail & Just another Strangeways riot?

ABC Wednesday comes around to "J" for Jail. This lone protestor has been on the roof at Strangeways prison since the weekend. I took these photos yesterday as he enjoyed some sunshine from his dangerous rooftop perch. He's inside for the murder of his uncle but there is an underlying problem in the prison. Poor conditions mean that tension is bubbling under and it can't be long before the riots of 1990 might be repeated...

  1. How on earth do they access the roof, one wonders.

  2. Not being funny, but they all keep getting on the roof. Dont you think they should create a prison next to it or redevelop that one to make it more secure if they are always escaping. Plus if you treat them like dogs your just going to wind them up to the max so then they will escape.

  3. Jail just seems like such a sad and hopeless place. The best we can hope for is rehabilitation for those of lesser crimes. Not a good situation. But, amazing photo.

  7. Prisoners feel terrible in some jails. Life is lonely and very boring. I know what it is to be a prisoner, for I was a prisoner in a concentrationcamp during WWII. Thank you for writing this post

  9. I wonder, too, if he's a prisoner, how is he able to be allowed on that roof.
