The November City Daily Photo Theme Day topic is a local landmark. This statue of Archimedes on Altrincham Street might not be the most obvious landmark for many Mancunians but it is for me. Archimedes, in mid-exit from his bath after another Eureka moment. That's not the first nose he has had, either. Created in 1990 by Thompson Dagnal, there is more information on it here.
Looks like the water was a smidge cold! I like that Archi has been allowed to show his age.

ReplyDeleteSomehow I imagined him as being a chubby sort of bloke. Our Queen Vic statue is also a target for nose trophy hunters.

ReplyDeleteI think this looks better from behind viewed through the archway - Thompson Dagnall has done lots of good work in wood too but one that he started locally was destroyed by the local council unfinished because it was near a play area and looked phallic.
