Potato Wharf

Part of the Potato Wharf apartments. A collection of contemporary one and two-bedroom apartments set in one of Manchester’s waterside locations. It's all part of the city's 30 year drive, which started in the 1980s,  to integrate modern living spaces amongst its regenerated industrial heritage.

However, I noticed that building one of the other blocks seemed to stop months and months ago. I imagine due to the recession but also there is a limit to the amount of new apartmenta any city needs. Especially when even the cheapest is almost beyond most average people's income. Most are bought by investors and then rented out.

  1. If it wasn't for red section it would just be another ho-hum apartment building. Though near the water is a bonus.

  2. Sounds a lot like the situation in Toronto. But I do like that touch of red!

  3. We have the same problem here in Leeds, buy to let. There has been an I think unsustainable number of flats built here over the last few years. There was a program on TV and the presenter was making the case that they would be the slums of tomorrow.

  4. One can only hope that the neighbours know each other. Thoughtful architecture indeed. Please have a good Friday.

  5. As Paul and Hal have said, the red bump-out (and the tan lower levels) save this from being a severely boring building. I still think I would prefer something with more age and character.

  6. Disgusting! Might be OK inside though.
So many like that, and nobody can afford them today.
Houses here begin around £145,000. People earning £10-15,000 can't afford them.
