The world's first passenger railway line ran from Manchester 30 miles or so west to Liverpool. It is commemorated by this mural at Manchester's Liverpool Road station by the MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry).
It seems appropriate to post this giant representation of workforce of steam and steel on the May Day Public Holiday. С ПЕРВЫМ МАЯ and solidarity to sisters and brothers around the world ;-)
More Monday Murals. My Worker of the World post from 1 May 2011 could also be relevant for today's national holiday celebrations.
What a beautiful homage for all workers, this mural is spectacular, an amazing art mural!

Thats a big mural but I like the railroad tale told here. Yes it changed the world.
ReplyDeleteFabulous mural!!!
ReplyDeleteMore good info from a blog! And a great mural.
ReplyDeletethose guys on the right, holding the steel rail seem to be posing for the artist!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome mural! Great photo of it also.
ReplyDeleteEven the colours look a little smoky :)
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to realize the scale of this mural. Pretty awe inspiring. The subject and composition remind me of classic WPA murals from the 30s, which also celebrated work and industry. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteIt's fabulous Chrissy..I like the way parts of it have a 3D feel, and ODP says, excellent with the real train in the shot to show the scale of the mural. this one would have required scaffolding for sure.
ReplyDeleteA big mural for a big advance in the world of transportation. The real train makes the photo IMHO.
