Old Fire Station, London Road
The old fire station on London Road is the turreted building in this photo. Built in 1906 but derelict for the past 25 years, the City council are trying to break the deadlock with Britannia Hotels who bought it but have failed to do anything with it, in order to put this wonderful building to some dignified use. It even has its own Facebook group of concerned followers: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=hpskip#!/group.php?gid=206716881309

Wonderful building and great photo - thanks for the info re the facebook group. Will join. Should be against the law for them to let it rot further.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised there is concern Chrissy, what a waste of a fabulous building, will be so interesting to see what they finally do with it.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great looking building. Here's one instance where I find facebook being a useful tool to have. Happy Friday, Chrissy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shot! Love the city feeling of it!
ReplyDeletegreat photo and that would make an awesome hotel! get busy folks!!
ReplyDeleteIt would be a great hotel, or a gallery, or a mall with shops, but such a beautiful building should be used!
ReplyDeleteConsidering the glass and steel hotels booming in this area it's a shame this is allowed to decay.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful mean to measure time and life. One can indeed only hope that people will treat it kind !

That IS a lovely building. Amazing that it was a fire station. They sure did know how to build things back then. So glad that many people are concerned with protecting it! It IS a keeper!
