Vintage phone boxes
It could almost be a traditional tourist postcard of Britain; the gleaming old GPO/BT telephone boxes and the Italianate arch. St. Peter's Square has rarely looked better.
Looks great in your photo Chrissy, but moving around a few degrees would reveal the vandalism Manchester City Council has carried out on Library Walk, destroying arguably the best example of Modernist synergy in the UK without even having gone through the due process of obtaining a stopping up order. The result will also exclude the public from space it owns and has used for decades. Friends of Library Walk have forced a public inquiry which will be held on the 21st and 22nd of this month http://manchestermodernists.wordpress.com/2014/10/15/campaigners-force-government-inquiry-into-public-space-in-manchester/ http://friendsoflibrarywalk.wordpress.com/ so I'm hoping the right thing will happen, although that will leave the issue of the money wasted at a time when the council is drawing up huge cuts to front line services which will have a huge impact on thousands of people in the city. It is a great photo so sorry to launch into this here, but I can't agree with the idea that St. Peter's has rarely looked better. I'll spare you the rants on BT's policy of retaining certain red phone boxes...nice things for nice places...and the shifting of the cenotaph. Keep up the great work on MW though and feel free to rant on http://levenshulmedailyphotograph.blogspot.co.uk/ anytime!
I totally agree Mr T, I am hopeful of the outcome of the enquiry though the council have already wasted millions I hear on this horrible construction joining the buildings, which looks cheap and nasty at best. Good luck!
