Monday Mural: Mangle Street Tankpetrol

A really clever mural using just white paint, by Mancunian artist Tankpetrol on Mangle Street, M1. It was painted last autumn on a back wall of the Roadhouse club & live music venue that commissioned it.  it's a shame that someone has added gold graffiti to the left side.

Street art apart, Mangle Street hasn't changed much in decades- it's a product of city centre industrial backstreets. Here's a photo of it in 1980.

Taking part in Monday Mural.

  2. Nice, not seen that. The graffiti on top of graffiti/street art is an interesting thing. Is there a line where a piece of graffiti becomes street art which can then become art that deserves the same respect you'd give a picture in a gallery? Really dunno the answer, but I suspect there's a grey area where things overlap.

  5. Too bad about the tags. I like the simplicity.

  6. A very fine mural, but what a shame those scribbles on the left and on the bust, it seems, people has nothing else to do...

  7. It's a beautiful mural.

The tagger, on the other hand, needs a smack upside the head. Fifty or sixty times.

  9. It's a lovely work Chrissy.. I guess that's the muralist's nightmare when people come along and randomly graffiti over their work. Still it could have been worse, you can still see the beauty!

  10. An unusual image. To my eye part 1950s fashion model, part ancient Indian bas relief, and part weird merging of hand with falcon claw. Maybe I''m weird, but I don't find the tagging that distracting. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
