Tales from Sale @CorkoftheNorth

On a leisurely Easter Monday after a late breakfast and a walk around the creatively maintained and packed full of surprises Walkden Gardens, we stumbled across Cork of the North. It’s a great wine shop and bar which opened in Sale last week, on Northenden Road near the tram stop. In no time at all we were sampling their range of organic wines and chatting with the ebullient oenophile owner Mark.

There is a truly wide selection of good non-organic wines as well. You can browse, buy and sip in a quirky sense of style sitting at the bar or in refurbished seats from a theatre in Bradford which add to the place’s own individuality.

Playwright and author Robert Bolt (Dr Zhivago, A Man for All Seasons) used to live here with his parents so there is some nice heritage to the building too.
