Skywatch Friday: Mr Blue Sky meets Mr Whitebeard, aka Zippy

The clock counting down to Christmas is ticking, like it or not, and the Manchester Christmas Markets are in full flow. A giant Father Christmas takes pride of place at the Town Hall, as he has done since the 1980s.  The current incarnation is nicknamed Zippy as he bears more than a passing resemblance to the said character from Rainbow (look below!)..Visit other Skywatch Friday posts around the world.

You can read my latest guest post Mulling over some midwinter magic in Europe's north west at 4 Manchester Women for a brief history and overview of the festive Mancunian markets.

  1. I love the composition you've done. Christmas is just around the corner.

  2. Just had a look at your market link. Really good, Chrissy. Where do you find the time???? (Thanks for your comment re my travel blog. It was my first attempt at blogging with no plan to share initially. I really can recommend Nevada!!!) But more importantly, love your photo today. German market is heading to Coventry. I am ready :).

  3. I can't believe Christmas is almost here! Enjoyed your market post (so true, don't do too much in one go!:) I'm excited to visit a Christmas market this season, hopefully in a big city somewhere.

  4. I was in Manchester on wednesday - what's that pagoda thingy in Exchange Square? Walking down Cathedral Street I was approached by two girls who handed me a plastic rose - I thought they must be promoting the markets but then one of them gave me a piece of paper - it said something about missing their mum in Romania and needing money - I gave them the rose back and wished them a Happy Christmas - they muttered something and strode off towards the Cathedral Gardens.

  5. What joy !

Please have a good new month ahead.
