Labour-ious, victorious?

The Labour Party conference is in full swing at GMex.

The Manchester Guardian sums up better than I could. "Labour is entitled to feel pretty upbeat about its prospects as it meets for its conference in Manchester this week. The government's centrepiece economic austerity strategy is deeply unpopular. The two coalition parties are increasingly at one another's throats. The Tory party is dangerously out of touch, as the "plebs" row illustrated so exquisitely. Labour meanwhile leads in the opinion polls by an average of 10 points(though one poll on Sunday had the lead as low as five) and is poised to capture a Tory parliamentary seat next month – something it has not done in a by election since 1997."

I'm aiming for a Green-Red coalition in 2015 and a fairer, more equal society...

  1. I went to a five live debate yesterday at the Bridgewater Hall. The general feeling was 'we are voting for Labour because we hate what we've got, not because we want to'. I think they have a lot of winning over to do and a lot of hard work but I'm sure by the next general election they'll have won enough hearts to get either a majority or coalition.
I'm going to Question Time on Thursday in Manchester so keep an eye out for me in the audience. :-)

  2. Have they gone for the usual 'ring of steel' security this year or toned it down for once?

  5. I hate to sound nit-picking again, but The Manchester Guardian hasn't been known as such since 1959 - were you still back in the days of the old rugby programmes you showed in yesterday's post? At least Manchester can be proud of having given the world the newspaper which is now known as The Guardian, although some people might say that 'ashamed' might be a better description.

    1. I quaintly refer to it as the Manchester Guardian from time to time still, though it had changed well before I was born!

    2. As for "ashamed", shame on you- that is not something I imagine anyone with any compassion or sense could feel. Ashamed wd apply to rags like the Mail, Sun, Times, Telegraph, Express, and Star...
