Rural Thursdays: Mi Amigo
The narrow boat (barge) Mi Amigo is often moored on the Macclesfield Canal near Bollington, not far from Canalside Community Radio in Clarence Mill. It's named after the Mi Amigo ship which was used for pirate radio stations, most notably Radio Caroline, in the 1960s and 1970s. Linked to the Rural Thursday blog.
It has a beautiful vintage decoration!

so colorful!
ReplyDeleteIs it now a passenger barge? Looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteYes, and owned by a family which includes a radio enthusiast I imagine ;-)
DeleteWow, how unusual! So people ride inside?
ReplyDeleteFor non-Brits, the UK canal network started around 1760 to transport goods such as coal and then maunfactured goods around the country, to fuel and evolve the industrial revolution. People worked and sometimes lived on the barges which were in use until the 1930s. Post World War II the network has been saved by enthusiasts and is now used for leisure purposes. You can own or rent narrow boats and traverse the UK canal network, or - as I do- merely enjoy walking their towpaths.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo of a vintage item ~ (A Creative Harbor)
ReplyDeleteI would love to do a canal ride - or walk - one day!
