Lucy Locket is a snow splattered narrowboat on the frozen Bridgewater Canal that I walked past at the weekend. The name of Lucy Locket is from a nursery rhyme written in 1842 (when the Bridgewater Canal was in its heyday) which is sung to the tune of "Yankee Doodle". Evidently she lost her pocket... I'm afraid I find it a rather annoying tune which I now can't get out of my head.

Ha, you seems to have the same weather as we here in holland. But it makes for great photo opportunities don't you think?
ReplyDeleteWow! Lucy + Locket are sure snow bound! They won't be going anywhere to sing nursery rhymes!
ReplyDeleteI recognized that tune right away! It's "Yankee Doddle". I read, though, that its origins do stem from you Brits and "Lucy Locket"--something to do with the rather disheveled appearance of some of our American soldiers. :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the name and the boat is so beautiful with the snow!

I'm glad I don't know that nursery rhyme or it would be in my head right now too!
ReplyDeleteLucy looks cute under the snow. :)
Great shot for Ruby ~ wonderful history ~

I'm thinking that Lucy Locket wasn't expected to get quite so frozen?
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to go onto that link because I find it a rather irritating tune as well....
I wouldn't like to sit on those seats at the back... oh and thanks now I have Yankee Doodle stuck in my head...
ReplyDeleteLovely name for a boat and it looks great in the snow. I had never heard this nursery rhyme.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photography. Our son prefers to listen to the radio, instead of me, before he sleeps ;) Please have a good Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteFreezing, brrrrr.
ReplyDeleteCatching up with Ruby Tuesday.
