Antiques Roadshow

Corridors of power in the gothic ediface that is Manchester Town Hall.

A sign that autumn is almost here is the new series of BBC 1's Antiques Roadshow, starting tonight coming from the Town Hall. I always assocciate the programme, which explores all treasures great and small, with cosy, dark evenings. Over 3,100 items were examined and evaluated when the programme was filmed here, and if you miss it when live, you can see the best online at BBC i Player after the Sunday evening broadcast: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mj2y

  1. I am going to get to Manchester some time. It's the last of the UK cities I have to explore. Not sure why I've never got there. It's definitely an ambition now.

Never been in your Town hall, the Leeds town hall is splendid, the Victorians knew how to do things in style. Paul at Leeds in Yorkshire pictures

  3. I am in awe of places like this that were built by great artisans of their time. I suppose the mere cost of building this way nowadays is prohibitive everywhere and the modern style was designed as an alternative building style.
