Skywatch Friday: Wednesday evening wisps of cloud

Although it was a fast turnaround on Wednesday evening, in from work, get ready and out again, I found time to stop and narvel at this passing cloud formation. Skywatch Friday.

Balmy night

Neither I nor Manchester wants to let go of summer it seems. It was surprisingly warm yesterday evening. Despite dusk descending at a worryingly early time of circa seven, people were sitting around enjoying the warmth. I hurried past as I had a Pink Floyd cocktail waiting for me at Font, followed by a meal at Zouk.

Chapati cafe #citydailyphoto

Eating a curry at lunchtime is a rare treat , so rare that I don't recall ever doing it before, but I indulged with a friend the other week at Chapati Cafe in Chorlton. A great cruelty-free veggie selection, nicely presented, tasty and good value at under a fiver.

Sky, stairs, squares & students

This is one end of the Chandos Hall student accommodation block in the city centre. With circa 80,000 students in Manchester and Salford, and many heading back here this coming weekend, housing stock is at a premium.

Last week I enjoyed an 1972 student filmed tour of UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology) which includes footage of this building and many other typical student activities and campus classics of the era. It's fifteen minutes of footage taken in a bygone age of rag weeks and the Bogle stroll (a sponsored 55-mile walk).

Skywatch Friday at the Venetian Marina

A late summer evening skyscape at the lovely Venetian Marina in Nantwich. A friend who's lived on a narrowboat there for the the past two years is moving north to the Scottish coast (without boat), so I doubt I'll be visiting here again ... Skywatch Friday.

Sixties sunshine at City Heights #citydailyphoto

Yesterday saw one of the city's hottest September days ever, followed by a storm and floods in Manchester. It was sunny again at the 23 storey City Heights on Victoria Bridge Street this morning.

I've always liked the rounded windows on this apartment building. It was designed and built by Leach, Rhodes and Walker for the Inland Revenue 50 years ago in 1966 and now is an apartment block from the 11th floor upwards, with the lower floors being a hotel.

Monday Murals: There's only one national football museum...

The football season and the national football museum is probably rightly situated in the heart of Manchester, albeit incongruously opposite the Medieval quarter - although they may well have played soccer there in unruly mobs back in the 15th century. So maybe some things don't change... Linking with Monday Murals.
