Monday Murals: A cross word under the arches
Someone went to great lengths to paste up this giant crossword puzzle underneath the railway arches. Despite there being no clues to accompany it, people have over the years added their own words to it. And they are not all as daft or offensive as you might expect!
Taking part in Monday Murals at the Oakland Daily Photo blog.
At first I thought was QR code to scan with a smart phone. I had to enlarge it to it's fullest size before I could see it was a crossword puzzle.
ReplyDeleteThat's great fun Chrissy.
ReplyDeleteI think I recognise it, not this crossword in particular, but giant crosswords in general. I was bought one as a present a year or two ago, but have never used it because I don't have a wall big enough, nor the inclination even if I had. The clues come printed in a book.
ReplyDeleteOne of our national newspapers has a giant two page sized end-of-year crossword (obviously not nearly as big as this) but I use to tack it up on the bathroom wall and fill it in whenever I found an answer. I usually hid the answers somewhere to be lost...
ReplyDeleteI love that people are filling it in!
It reminds me of a giant 'Magic Eye' puzzle, I'm staring hard at it and expecting a 3d image to leap out at me!
ReplyDeleteFrom here it looks like an op art piece. I love the idea of random citizens adding their own words to it. The ultimate in engaging the public. Thanks, Chrissy, for contributing to Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteThat is quite a clever idea - it's like an interactive art piece!
ReplyDeleteNot guilty, as I don't carry pen or pencil! :D
ReplyDeleteOp Art! Yes!
ReplyDeleteIt would be fun to see how it progresses with people adding random words.
Wonderful! I always save the crossword that Violet mentioned and attempt to finish it but never do. I'm glad people are filling in the spaces.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the idea that people have added their own words, makes the entire thing so delightfully interactive, which is exactly what street art should be.
ReplyDeleteThoughtful mean to measure time and life.
ReplyDeletePlease have a good Tuesday.
