ABC Wednesday: "W" is for Wing Yip
The contrast between the Wing Yip's pagoda, shop and restaurant and the grand old apartment block opposite it (Victoria Square, you can read a fascinating article here) on the Oldham Road in Ancoats is a clash of two cultures - but it works for me. Linked to ABC Wednesday.
I love this composition with the two different architecture!Awesome capture!

It really is a grand old apartment building.
ReplyDeleteI was brought up in Indonesia and I always felt that it was wrong to mix the architecture of various cultures. In Rotterdam we had before the war buildings built after the European architecture, but now the skyline is spoiled by an enormous mosque, which is so conspicuously present that you can't miss it. It might be beautiful, but it belongs to another culture and would be perfect in an Asian or African country. I also protest against Dutch windmills in Asia or Africa. It clashes with the surroundings.
ReplyDeleteWhatever! Your photo is great. Thank you. Have a great day.
Wil, ABCW Team.
You've captured the two cultures... not clashing.
ReplyDeleteJust goes to show how the world is becoming a smaller place as we move out of our native regions to new places.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly shows two separate cultures. I love the old apartment block--that's a beautiful building.

Well-spotted and makes such an interesting architectural contrast - I like it!
ReplyDeleteI followed the link. The article was very interesting and there are some amazing photos there. Thanks! I think that ethnic based building styles are better suited to be clumped together. I feel the same way about new and old styles. It doesn't bother me if it isn't that way though. Just my preference. In your photo (that I love), the apartment building in the background is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the fame! I can't quite wrap my mind around this photo. Having said that, I think it's fantastic!
