I was in there recently and it is indeed a fascinating place - you need to get permission to photograph inside though. Entry is free unlike some museums so definitely worth a visit - the main entrance is on Wellington Road North but you can exit on Wood Street which is handily next to the bus station. In one section you can try on some of the hats. There is an internet cafe inside too but I didn't look in that part.
