There are plenty of real cobblestones on the bridges of the Macclesfield Canal where I walk often, and other places too. Jutland Street, and thousands like it, are paved not with cobbles but with stone setts which are cut blocks of stone, usually granite, purpose made for road surfacing. Cobbles are actually weathered stones or pebbles which have not been shaped by man. They are usually found in seaside villages. It's most odd as there isn't a gradual slope - you drive along a perfectly level road then there's this sudden drop, at which point you can't see any road in front of you. I would imagine the best place to get a photograph showing the steepness would be from the other side of Store Street at the bottom. To anyone who doesn't live near Manchester I can recommend going into Google Earth and using Street View to 'drive' over the edge.Dave Williams of Hyde, Cheshirenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7857974145888177431.post-3804642642120847692012-04-01T11:28:48.070+01:002012-04-01T11:28:48.070+01:00great perspective with the yellow paint dripping d...great perspective with the yellow paint dripping down the cobbles - have had to look it up on my A-Z - near the Ashton canal I see.
